The Differences Between Conservatives and Liberals

Some thoughts: It seems to me liberals are extremely passionate about things they see are wrong: healthcare, climate change, defense/offense strategies, wars, etc. It's almost like they think they own the exclusive rights to championing "reform" on their pet issues. The thing is, Conservatives also agree that there are lots of problems that need to be fixed...

But libs are so busy ranting their outrage, they assume that Conservatives are just there to stop them and get in their way. It never even enters their minds, the Conservatives DO want SOME changes. They assume that Conservatives are "evil, rich, white people, racist, bigots, homophobes, etc" But I notice a couple of things. I don't know of any Conservatives that fit any of the above adjectives. I also notice how hard Conservatives try to talk about facts with liberals but when the liberals can't converse in facts, they resort to blind, wild, emotional ridicule, generalizing, and really nasty put-downs and jokes. Another problem is that there are so many "facts" and "studies" from both sides, it just becomes system overload...which is the perfect distraction...

The thing is, Conservatives are very aware of corrupt CEO's, health insurance companies, questionable reasons for going to war, and so on...I think both sides are fighting for the same things that are wrong in our society....but I think our world views are what causes so much dissent. Libs tend to see the glass half empty: "America's wrong for this, that other countries think badly of us...we're imperialists that need to put into our place." Heaven for bid if some loser country doesn't like us. People don't like Russia, Cuba (well except our Democratic Black Caucus and Michael Moore), Iran, Palestine. I don't think they are changing how they do things just to make us happy.

The liberals see whole systems, corporations, industries as evil and that one big, giant, government will solve everything and that Socialism justifies this hatred of "Wallstreet," "CEO greed," etc, . What astounds me is a blindness to the idea that systems, corporations, industries, by themselves, are like guns are things; they don't do harm by themselves, it is those corrupt individuals that run the systems that can be very disruptive.

So what I find so interesting is that big business, big insurance, big car company, doctors, lawyers are horrible, but big union, big government, big corporations "in bed" with government like GE (General Electric), big pockets $$$, like George Soros, John Podesta, big healthcare (I think they also forget how many millions of $$$ actors make, they have private jets, gazillion houses, amazing vacations. Also, their major funders like George Soros, John Podesta, Rockefeller made their $$$ on big Wallstreet."So for a liberal, outrage depends on "who" is successful not their bogus claims on how they make the money.

Another, unexplainable outrage is this visceral hatred of FoxNews. For generations and generations the 8 or so news channels were admittedly, and unapologetic left leaning. So once again, liberals feel that they are entitled to monopolize the news industry and anything that opposes them is evil, outrageous, and needs to be annihilated. The problem really becomes a big deal when Fox's ratings triple and quadruple, the now called, "Fringe Media;" formerly known as "mainstream media." Again, it never occurs to them that it's popularity has to do with the right's disgust of bias and and daily doses of propaganda. Conservatives however, don't "hate" left media, it falls out of our line of vision, so in effect, we don't see it so we don't really care about it.

But all these big, hated by the left, things are run by "people." Some good, some bad. But power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The same lure of corruption that occurs in business is the same lure of corruption that occurs in big union, big government. The difference is that in a "free-choice" society (capitalism) we can choose to change companies, allow nasty things to fail... but with Socialism, we're stuck...if it turns out terrible... we're stuck... What liberals are blind to see is that it is corrupt individuals that run those corrupt companies. If you "nationalize" them, now you have corrupt individuals running a government business. There is nothing in the world that can show that once an individual steps across the threshold of a government-run business, or system, that they instantly gain "integrity." We only have centuries of proof that the exact opposite happens.

So of course, we are all blinded with our motes and beams...with Conservatives however, we've been very busy raising our families, working hard, giving service, donating to charities that we've never, ever, been politically active. You see, we trust people. We naively give people the benefit of the doubt and project that the people we have voted into office are like us. It seems the beltway demon possesses anyone who steps within it's realm. We became disenfranchised with the Republicans, appalled at the deceptions and back-room deals that took place last year during the primaries. And the lame-excuse for a career politician, John McCain is anything but a RINO (Republican in Name Only).

We are one step ahead of the Democrats now. We've been through power from a majority that implodes and an executive branch that only seems to advance the Center for American Progress' agenda. Has anyone reading this researched John D Rockefeller, John Podesta and George Soros and their agendas? These are the people on the other end of the blackberry. These deep pockets and million-tentacled organizations are the machines that advance the Progressive agenda.

So here it is: Liberals are Progressives. They are people who have shed the typical morality of ultimate "right and wrong," God, and virtue. They are Communists. "Progress", "movement", "adaptation," "agitation," "unrest," "unfairness," "inequality," "social justice," "advancement" are the "new morality." They have unhinged from ultimate truth. Everything to them is relative, based on the circumstances surrounding it - political correctness. I can't imagine a liberal can experience much joy. The anger at injustice; dissatisfaction with everything on the lists that haven't been resolved would create a deep bitterness... which can explain why tempers fly so easily. And most liberals I know, are in fact, very bitter, angry people. They want a complete monopoly of ideas, their arrogance makes it very hard for them to accept rebuttal. Which of course makes it impossible for anyone to want "what they have." At least, not when you have experienced the comfort and joy of seeing that "glass is half full."

On the other hand, Conservatives hold firmly that there are ultimate truths, right and wrong. These values become the lodestar around which we define the world and the actions of our brothers and sisters. Most of us find that God is our Polaris. With Him and his Word we can find confidence, security, alleviation from the injustices and corruption we see in the world. We have great confidence in the individual that when they reach their bottom, we are the first to offer and hand to lift them up. Enabling is the very thing that circumvents the reality of redemption. So for this reason, we find great happiness in life, whatever our circumstances. We are people who could have our material goodies taken away, and we would have the resolve to dust ourselves off, pick ourselves up by the boot straps, and start over.

So for Conservatives, we rally for truth, goodness. We try to do this through education, not propaganda, long-suffering and persuasion. We believe in given everyone a choice and letting losers fail. Enabling and bailing out, giving every child a trophy for "participating" so that self-esteem isn't eroded is exactly what leads to this world of "spoiled brat syndrom." The mini-tyrants that want to "change the world," exclude anyone else from deliberation, avoid anyone else's ideas. They grow up into big arrogant tyrants that want to "rule the world," based on their very narrow, echo-chamber reality.

So, for general information, Conservatives we're okay with finding joy in the present. We don't believe the Constitution is a living document. We know that for example, Founders of the Constitution, knew that slavery was a problem. The issue had to be resolved another time. So for these dire inperfections than yes, things need to be changed. But the great minds who studied empires from the beginning knew, that it had to be laid out this way. It was designed that freedom was the most important environment this new empire would have, "if we could keep it."

Progressives, which started around the turn of the century, believe the Constitution is a bil of negative rights, not positive rights. Right now they are building a "positive bill of rights," which grants everyone a home, a job, a college education." This is what is happening now with our new administration. There will become a maximum wage. You will only be allowed to make so much and the rest will be given to "spread the wealth around."

Study, study, study these thing...Our Constitution is hanging by a thread... wake up... We are repeating history. Read about Woodrow Wilson's administration.

What Really Happened at the 912 DC Rally

We were there. Our sons insisted we go. They were willing to chip in their hard-earned paper-route money (they deliver 250 homes each Saturday) at the ages of 11 and 13. They appreciated the value of hard work and how they must save for their future.

This is the video we made in the car on the way home from Washington DC. We could not have been around a calmer, gentler, family-friendly environment than even compared to an amusement park. People broke out into cheers on the subway, chanting USA, and other patriotic expressions. There were a couple "off'color" signs, but we didn't focus on them. They were certainly out numbered by the just clear statements, or clever expressions that expressed our "outrage" at a government out of control.

We are very proud to be a part of history in this way. Older people stopped us and thanked us for bringing our children. Some even asked if they could take our picture. Elderly strangers, stopped us in the street to talk to us and the children about how important this is to them.

Parents upset over 'leftist propaganda' video

A school principal has apologized for showing a video at an assembly that a politically
conservative group leader is calling "radical, leftist propaganda."

Children at Eagle Bay Elementary School in Farmington were shown a
short video called "I pledge" on Aug. 28. The video opens with an image
of President Barack Obama and part of a speech in which he says, "Let
us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility where each of
us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only
ourselves but each other." The video then features celebrities making
pledges about how they will help the president and the world -- and
that's where some say the problem lies.

Many pledges, such as supporting local food banks,

smiling more, and caring for the elderly are noncontroversial. But other
pledges, such as "to never give anyone the finger when I'm driving
again," "to sell my obnoxious car and buy a hybrid" and to advance stem
cell research cross the line, some say.

Just one comment... It just goes to show how incredibly sad, stupid and shallow these people are if they have to kiss their bicep to their president. Not to mention, the complete assumption that children don't come from really great homes and families that are teaching virtue and values TO GOD through faith in Jesus Christ - NOT THE BLEEPING PRESIDENT! And that through that loving relationship with our Savior, great character is born. And that these new "pledges" (while the one to America and GOD are being flushed with the deuce down the toilet) are to the earth and to a human.

How to convert a Liberal to a Conservative - any ideas?

Okay everyone it's time to stop biting our tongues and lay out how we feel in our frantic, fanatic, flaming liberal world.

I have made several attempts in the last few months to gently open my mouth about my concern for my country to various friends and family. I have been blasted with the most amazing excuses, arguments, and the "unsophisticated" emotional spewage of the liberals with whom I speak. I can handle civil disagreement and sharing of ideas. But this is about discourse with hypnotized zombies that have IV lines connected straight to the Obama White House "feel-good" drip.

It's all about feeling good.... and you and I, my dear friend, just want to help invite them think.

Further, I'm not sure I am motivated to "convert" them because like with any conversion, we lay the truth out there for the person themselves to embrace or not. It is not "we" that are doing the converting; it is the amazing process that happens when "truth" takes hold of a person's soul and brings them to "an awakening".
So how do we set their alarm clocks?

Hmmmm, we do have a problem here don't we? I do not have a solution by myself, but I think more heads are better than one.

I would like to put this out there for all of us to "comment" on. Please comment your suggestion. I can compile your suggestions into an "edit" of this post so that we will have a wonderful encyclopedia of ideas - cited, of course.

So, I thank you in advance for your ideas, I think this will be a wonderful collection that will help us in this very daunting task. I think this will give us a great chance to hear each other's ideas and experiences.

This is part 1 of 2 of an idea I have to help us be armed in our daily life to bring us "change" and to help us have "hope."

We Surround Them - Glenn Beck

1) Yes or no: Do you believe America is a good place, that we've lost our way over the years, that we have done bad things but generally speaking we tried hard. We try to make amends. We have tried to do the right thing. Just like everybody else, we fail from time to time and we have truly lost our way in the last 20 years. But gosh, if you look at America, she's good and our founders were good and our founding documents are good. We've just strayed too far away from them. Yes or no.

2) Yes or no: I believe in God. I may not go to the same church or synagogue or mosque as the majority of people in America, but I believe in God and he is the center of my life, and God does not tell people to behead others or to persecute others that see God in a different way. As long as that god is not telling them to persecute others.

Yes or no.

3) Yes or no: It is my responsibility to try to be better and a more honest person than I was yesterday. Sometimes I fail, I'll make mistakes, but it's my main mission to be better than I was personally than I was yesterday.

4) Yes or no: The family is sacred. I and my spouse are the ultimate authority under God when it comes to my family. I raise my family, and that comes with a grave responsibility. If I fail, I answer to God.

5) Yes or no: If you break the law, you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.

6) Yes or no: I have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but that is not a guarantee of equal results.

7) Yes or no: I work hard for what I have, and I will share it with others that I choose when I choose, should I choose. Government cannot force me to be charitable.

8) It is not un-American for anyone to disagree with my opinion, but my opinion or others' opinions may be anti-American. Anti-American rhetoric would be anything that is destructive to the Constitution and our country as our founders understood it.

9) And the last one is the government works for me. The government answers to me. I do not answer to the government.

                        

Glenn is asking anyone, Right or Left, Republican or Democrat to step away from the insanity and stop and consider some very basic principles - principles that are basic and decent. They are elements of our moral compass around which we navigate through our American life. Some, however, trash these ideals and are perverting everything good and decent.

The deal is this, if you support or believe in seven or more of these ideals, then send a picture of yourself  and spouse to wesurroundthem@gmail.com or wesurroundthem@foxnews.com . Glenn plans to use these photos in some way in the future, including the possibility of showing them on his show on FoxNews.

The reality is, that Obama and the other liberals are trying to shove through the most vile and outrageous deviation from our Constitution imaginable. The whole idea of getting us to feel cut off and isolated and helpless - is exactly what they want. This has been a stealth move, orchestrated since the beginning of this century by a group called the "Progressives". See book Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg.

We encourage everyone to keep up with Glenn Beck and what he is planning to do with all these photos. As of this point, he will have a studio audience on his FoxNews show on Friday, March 15th 5:00pm. His show begins at 5pm est. Be sure and record the show if it is too early.

There is also another great thing happening. Glenn has helped everyone around the country gather together on the night of this broadcast in a "Meet-Up" gathering. You have probably heard that Obama and friends such as "Move-On.org" get everyone to meet together at rallies or in each other's homes - this is how he motivates such enormous ground support. Obama and friends are masters of the Internet and new media. Well now it's time to turn the tables. The ground is swelling in a way rarely seen in America.

So everyone, it's time to get to work and get connected. We are Americans - those 9-12-2001 people. We are the people who are hurt but not broken; down but not out. We love this country and it's time we take it back.

Colin Powell - A Sell Out's Cheap Shot

Well, all respect for such a great man has just been flushed down the political toilet. How sad that someone that most of us have held in such high regard has become nothing more than another pawn for the secret campaign of reverse racism. Are there any outstanding influential African American figures endorsing McCain? Hmmm, I can't seem to think of any.

I realize that many Black people are so excited to see their skin color in the White House that they are willing to cut off their nose to spite their face. What just amazes me is that I SO don't think of our country in terms of Black and White that I am SO worn out having this shoved in my face. There are so many REAL problems going on in our country that this manufacturing of this issue is alarming. I am feeling silenced and as if I am living under Sharia law.

This constant manipulation to try to get me to feel guilt for something I don't do (like being a racist) is driving me crazy. Does it not mean anything to anyone that those of us, so many generations since the horrible things done to African Americans, go out of our way to show you the kindest respect we can? I can't even get on a bus without having to deal with the scowls of searing hatred, because I represent a person that "owes them something". 

I am of British descent. My relatives were snuck up on in the middle of the foggy nights by Vikings and were raped and beaten and taking as slaves or had their throats slit or skulls crushed in. Thousands were taken in slavery. What good does it do to live in this mental and emotional landscape of hatred, resentment and delusion of entitlement? We are so sorry for you! We pray for you! Our relatives were enslaved too, but we are OVER IT! People and nations make mistakes, yes, but what makes us different from the baboons is the zoo is that we have the ability to reason. We do not have to be enslaved to our emotions. We, the human race, have been given the divine ability to rise above this. Please let us.

Colin Powell's arguments against McCain were so fabricated he looked like nothing more than another African American puppet for Obama. I am not happy that McCain is the GOP nominee, I still think that Mitt Romney would be the best in our current economic situation. I am disgusted by the "politics" McCain used with his cohort Huckabee to shove Romney out. But, I am forced to let bygones be bygones.

But all that aside, McCain is on a great game with his grasp of the economy. He "sounds" as though he is clearly in touch with what America wants. If he had voted against the bailout, he would be the sure-fire future president of the United States. But we can sound out loud and clear, "we don't want SOCIALISM!"

Was the Colin Card pulled out because team Obama can't shake the Ayres monkey off their back? What about spreading Plumber Joe's wealth around and then issuing Sharia law on him by trying to crucify him in the public square? I'm tired of Acorn cheating the election. I'm tired of Obama "raising" and "spending" so much money on his campaign. My vote can not be bought.

I know that money is coming from terrorists, they even are bragging about this. There are only so many reasons to need THAT kind of money, and I believe that at that level, they are NOT wholesome. I do wonder that this Obama is our Manchurian candidate for Al Qaeda.

Why would any candidate to become our nation's president situate himself so far from our nation's heritage and founding? Step back for a moment and consider this. The only time I felt this kind of sick feeling in my stomach was when I stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon staring into the gaping chasm scarred into our earth. It is unfathomable. Our nation is now staring at two candidates, one stands just within sight of our Constitution and the other is completely out of sight.

This angry, white, female is disgusted. There are NO unifying moments Obama is sending my way. If he really thinks any of these antics would cause me to CHANGE my vote to him by this is insulting and he's got another thing coming. The anger he claims we feel is the old psychological phenomenon called "projection". This is when people have strong feelings when themselves and "project" them onto another. In a twisted contortion, the individual then convinces himself that it is the other person who maintains those strong feelings. Obama "projects" his anger onto "white males".

I will never forget the day after the OJ verdict. I went to downtown Cleveland for a class. A Black professor walked by while I sat in my nook waiting for class to start. He walked passed with the most smug glare staring down at me. I could read what the smug, icy glare meant. It was as if that day was when some of these people had finally WON. I could see that he was determined to spin the screws to anyone, including the little student sitting in her nook, minding her own business. He had been empowered. There was a satisfaction that he walked by with a pride I will never forget. It was the day I learned that a man could get away with murder.

I desire that all mankind be empowered. It is not anything that needs to be stolen, bribed or cheated. Power comes from within. It doesn't need an Oval Office, it needs values. True power radiates from within.

So what are Obama's core values? Is it to finally get even for the sins heaped upon his race? Or is it to hand our country over to our enemies because we deserve to be "punished" and "confined" to Socialism.  We may just soon find out.

McCain-Palin Inspire This Conservative

I am so thrilled after all these months about Sarah Palin. I have gained SOME new respect for John McCain. I have a very difficult time trusting him, but I can pledge my allegiance to Sarah Palin. I really was part of the dejected Republic.

Despite all this excitement, I can't help but mourn over the loss of Mitt Romney. And this is my prevailing thought: "If only it was Romney-Palin".

I have to say that one of the absolutely funniest moments was afterwards when on MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell became buried in a very large pile of balloons from a balloon drop. Tom Brokaw started calling her "Andrea Boom Boom Mitchell". And the sad (or actually hilarious) thing is, with all their clueless elitism, neither one were incapable of smiling over the matter.

Okay - so maybe there is reason to blog again. It's going to take a great deal more to rouse this napping tiger. The exception, of course, is following Sarah Palan.

So maybe I'll be seeing you again and maybe I won't.

Light Blogging as I Prepare for Big Back Surgery, Glenn Beck & Liberal Fascism

Hi everyone,

I apologize for the light blogging. Number one, I have a lot of thoughts on the current political tides in our country - but am very frustrated with my powerlessness to effect any changes. I have actually started at least 10 articles in the last couple of weeks but have quit 3/4 the way through.

Meanwhile, I am preparing for a 360 fusion of my lumbar spine. There has been a lot to do - donate blood, get fitted for a back brace, pre-admission testing, type and cross-matched - and all the other pleasantries of having a rapidly deteriorating back. There is also all the fun stuff of getting a family prepared to live without the CFO (Chief Family Officer) out of commission for the NEXT THREE MONTHS!!! and beyond.

Emulating FDR: A horrible idea

"America has a dictator," Benito Mussolini proclaimed, watching FDR from abroad. He marveled at how the forces of "spiritual renewal" on display in the New Deal were destroying the outdated notion that democracy and liberalism were "immortal principles." "Roosevelt is moving, acting, giving orders independently of the decisions or wishes of the Senate or Congress. ... A sole will silences dissenting voices." That almost sounds like Harry Reid talking about Bush.
Mussolini reviewed FDR's book, Looking Forward proclaiming the author a kindred spirit. The way Roosevelt "calls his readers to battle," he wrote, "is reminiscent of the ways and means by which fascism awakened the Italian people." "Without question," he continued, the "sea change" in America "resembles that of fascism." Indeed, the comparisons were so commonplace, Mussolini's press office banned the practice. "It is not to be emphasized that Roosevelt's policy is fascist because these comments are immediately cabled to the United States and are used by his foes to attack him."
The German press adored FDR. In 1934, the Vlkischer Beobachter, the Nazi Party's official newspaper, described Roosevelt as a man of "irreproachable, extremely responsible character and immovable will" and a "warm-hearted leader of the people with a profound understanding of social needs." Hitler sent FDR a letter celebrating his "heroic efforts" and "successful battle against economic distress." Hitler informed the U.S. ambassador, William Dodd, that New Dealism was also "the quintessence of the German state philosophy."
The New Dealers were not so much mimicking the Soviet Union, Fascist Italy or Nazi Germany. They were attempting to recreate what they had built -up under Woodrow Wilson's war socialism. Today we have no historical memory of how brutal the Wilson Administration was, nor do we realize that many Progressives supported the war not so much because they championed its foreign policy aims, but because they yearned for the "social possibilities of war," in the words of John Dewey, the 20th century's premier political philosopher.

Obama Votes to Kill Living Babies - Twice

I stumbled onto this one posted at Dry Fly Politics yesterday and the word needs to spread. Personally, I like Gov. Mitt Romney, have even more recently decided to take a stand more aggressively on this issue. Giving women a choice and then "hoping our culture will turn the tide and choose life for itself" isn't going to happen anywhere in the near future.

I watched videos of these "late-term" abortions and couldn't believe what I was seeing. If you want to wake up to reality, roam around Abort73 for a while and get a grip at what's going on (check here from Abort73 to see a bit more).

But here Barrack Obama has voted TWICE to allow live-birth abortions to be shelved in utility rooms. This is the BAIPA act.

As a nurse at an Illinois hospital in 1999, I discovered babies were being aborted alive and shelved to die in soiled utility rooms. I discovered infanticide.

Legislation was presented on the federal level and in various states called the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. It stated all live-born babies were guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection, whether or not they were wanted.

BAIPA sailed through the U.S. Senate by unanimous vote. Even Sens. Clinton, Kennedy and Kerry agreed a mother’s right to “choose” stopped at her baby’s delivery.

The bill also passed overwhelmingly in the House. NARAL went neutral on it. Abortion enthusiasts publicly agreed that fighting BAIPA would appear extreme. President Bush signed BAIPA into law in 2002.

But in Illinois, the state version of BAIPA repeatedly failed, thanks in large part to then-state Sen. Barack Obama. It only passed in 2005, after Obama left.

I testified in 2001 and 2002 before a committee of which Obama was a member.

Obama articulately worried that legislation protecting live aborted babies might infringe on women’s rights or abortionists’ rights. Obama’s clinical discourse, his lack of mercy, shocked me. I was naive back then. Obama voted against the measure, twice. It ultimately failed.

In 2003, as chairman of the next Senate committee to which BAIPA was sent, Obama stopped it from even getting a hearing, shelving it to die much like babies were still being shelved to die in Illinois hospitals and abortion clinics.

(As chair of that same committee, Obama once abruptly ended a hearing early, right before Scott and Janet Willis, the parents of six children killed as a result of Illinois’ drivers licenses for bribes scandal, were to testify in favor of Choose Life license plate legislation. I was there for that one, too. The Willises had traveled three hours. Reporters filled the room. Obama stalled. He later killed the bill when no one was around.)

Obama insinuated opposition to abortion is based only on religion, lecturing pro-lifers like me to “explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths, including those with no faith at all.”

I don’t recall mentioning religion when I testified against live-birth abortion. I only recall describing a live aborted baby I held in a hospital soiled utility room until he died, and a live aborted baby who was accidentally thrown into the trash.

Neither do I recall religion being brought into the partial-birth abortion ban debate. I recall comparisons made to U.S. laws ensuring animals being killed are treated humanely. I recall testimony that late-term babies feel excruciating pain while being aborted.

Obama stated pro-life proposals must be “amenable to reason.”

OK, Sen. Obama, let’s reason. Explain why you support abortion for whatever rationale, at whatever gestation, by whatever means. Explain why you support infanticide, if banning it might interfere with abortion.

Okay everyone, wake up out of your "rock fan groupie" trance and dig to find out what this Obama-monster is really all about.

Michelle Obama’s comment that, for the first time in her adult life, she feels proud of America helps crystallize who Barack Obama is.

To be sure, the wife of a candidate is perfectly free to have views that are distinct from her husband’s. But on a matter that is so fundamental to one’s being as love of country, it is difficult to imagine that Michelle Obama would publicly twice make such a statement suggesting disdain for America unless she felt it comported with her husband’s views.

Equally important, her statement aligns perfectly with the hate-America views of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s minister, friend, and sounding board for more than two decades. On the Sunday following 9/11, Wright characterized the terrorist attacks as a consequence of violent American policies. Four years later, Wright suggested that the attacks were retribution for America’s racism.

“In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01,” Wright wrote in his church magazine Trumpet. “White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.”

Wright has been a key supporter of Louis Farrakhan, and in December, honored the Nation of Islam leader for lifetime achievement, saying he “truly epitomize[s] greatness.”

WASHINGTON — Americans who dug deeper into their pockets for groceries last year will face sticker shock again this year when shopping for food, experts said Thursday.

Consumer food prices are expected to rise 3.0% to 4.0% this year after a 4.0% gain in 2007, said USDA Chief Economist Joseph Glauber at the U.S. Agriculture Department's annual outlook conference.

He added that "overall retail food prices for 2008 to 2010 are expected to rise faster than the general inflation rate."

"There's going to be real food inflation in this country," said C. Larry Pope, president and chief executive of U.S. beef processor Smithfield Foods (SFD).

So my big question is with all the Obama - and even John McCain fans - this is all about, among other things, attempting to use up grains to create ineffective bio-fuels. The other part is that our farm industries are so subsidized that I heard somewhere that this is the first year we are actually going to have to import wheat for consumption. So add to this the massive tax increases that an Obama presidency would cause and you will see something that will make the Carter years look like paradise.

The facts your liberal friends need to hear

Liberals, perhaps more than anyone, believe that we should be vigilant against the threat of fascism. Now, they also believe that fascism can only come from the Right--I think they're wrong. But, what liberals - and everyone else - very much need to understand is that whatever direction fascism comes from, it's popular. Fascism succeeds in democratic countries because it convinces people that it's the wave of the future, it's progressive, it's young, it's vital, it's exciting. Fascist promise to fix what's broken in our democracy, to heal our wounds, to deliver us to promised lands. So if you think fascism comes from the Right, fine. But at least keep in mind that it won't sell itself as dull, or uptight, or old-fashioned.

Let me take a moment to give you a concrete sense of what I mean.

Fascism appealed to youth activists. Indeed, the Nazis and Fascists were in major respects youth movements. In 1931, 60 percent of all German undergraduates supported the Nazi Student Organization. "Their goal," the historian John Toland wrote of the young idealists who fed the Nazi rise to power, "was to establish a youth culture for fighting the bourgeois trinity of school, home and church."

Meanwhile, middle and lower class Germans were attracted to the economic and cultural populism of Nazism. The Nazi party began as the German Worker's Party. The Nazis economic rhetoric was eerily similar to John Edwards "Two Americas" talk. The Nazis promised to clamp down on Big Business - particularly department stores, the Wal-Marts of their day - and end the class struggle. Theodore Abel, an impressively clever American sociologist, gives us insight into why working class Germans were attracted to Nazism. In 1934 Abel took out an ad in the Nazi Party journal asking "old fighters" to submit essays explaining why they had joined. He restricted his request to "old fighters" because so many opportunists had joined the party after Hitler's rise. The essays were combined in the fascinating book Why Hitler Came Into Power. One essayist, a coal miner, explained "Though I was interested in the betterment of the workingman's plight, I rejected [Marxism] unconditionally. I often asked myself why socialism had to be tied up with internationalism-why it could not work as well or better in conjunction with nationalism." A railroad worker concurred, "I shuddered at the thought of Germany in the grip of Bolshevism. The slogan 'Workers of the World Unite!' made no sense to me. At the same time, however, National Socialism, with its promise of a community . . . barring all class struggle, attracted me profoundly." A third worker wrote that he embraced the Nazis because of their "uncompromising will to stamp out the class struggle, snobberies of caste and party hatreds. The movement bore the true message of socialism to the German workingman."

Nazism's appeal to the professional classes was just as strong. Raymond Dominick, a historian specializing in the history of German environmentalism, found that by 1939, 59 percent of conservationist leaders had joined the Nazi party, while only 10 percent of adult males had. Forty five percent of medical doctors had joined and roughly one quarter of teachers and lawyers had. The two groups of professionals with the highest rates of participation in the Nazi Party? Veterinarians were first and foresters were a close second. Dominick found a "unique nexus between National Socialism and nature conservation."

The Nazis and Italian Fascists won-over big business, cultural elites, the youth and the lower-classes because they portrayed themselves as heroically on the side of progress, protecting the environment and the poor. Fascists preached unity, togetherness and an end to division.

Liberals need to ask themselves where do they hear this rhetoric the most?

I'm not saying that merely being for the environment, the poor or national unity makes you a fascist. But what I am saying is that if you're concerned about spotting fascism on the horizon you can't just look at people you don't like. That's like only looking for your lost car keys where the light is good. Huey Long reportedly said that if Fascism comes to America it will be called "anti-Fascism." Liberals can still make their arguments that fascism comes from the right. But until they understand that wherever fascism may come from, it never arrives save in a form that the best and the brightest are willing to accept with open arms.
And if liberals don't know their history, they won't be equipped to spot it when it comes knocking.

Islamic Prayer Tower Rises Over South St. Louis City

The South St. Louis skyline is getting a new addition...

In the last decade 50,000 Bosnians have moved to St. Louis and many to the South City Bevo Mill neighborhood. St. Louis today is thought to hold the largest Bosnian population in the nation.

So to make the local Bosnians feel more at home the local Islamic Center is putting up a prayer tower in the formerly Dutch and currently Bosniak neighborhood of Bevo Mill, according to blogger Republican Riot. From this tower the call to prayer is to be broadcast several times a day.

China Cracking Down on Christians In Preparation of the Olympics

My sister-in-law visited us a couple weeks ago. She is from Communist China. She is married to my brother who is American. For financial reasons she continues to live in China and visits on vacation.

When she came to visit our home, she didn't understand how our home was heated (with a forced air furnace) and we took her down to the basement to see how it all worked.  Another thing that was stunning to us was that she had never seen a picture of Jesus Christ before.

She told us how at her University, there was an American couple that Bible meetings at their apartment. The couple was there as a teachers at her University. My sister-in-law was able to go to these meetings for a couple of weeks before the government found out about what was happening. The government told the couple that they had to stop or they would have to go back to America.

Well here is a little taste of what is really going on over there:

Chinese stepping up religious crackdown ahead of Olympics

A new report shows that China's communist government has stepped up its crackdown on Christians.

According to the annual report released by the China Aid Association, there were 60 cases of known persecutions against house churches last year -- up from 46 cases in 2006. The report also found that 788 people were persecuted, a total up from 665 the year before.
Bob Fu, president of the China Aid Association, says the crackdown on Christians and unregistered house churches is related to the upcoming summer Olympic games. And he says the crackdown is even extending to foreign Christians.
"But one surprising thing was the unprecedented campaign to kick out foreign Christians and missionaries -- and even businessmen -- from China," notes Fu.
Fu is encouraging Christians in the West to use their freedom to call for reforms in China. "We can write letters to President Bush, who has agreed to attend the China Olympics this summer, [asking] that he will continue to raise his voice," says Fu.
According to Fu, the campaign to deport foreign Christians is the most widespread of its kind since the communists took over more than 50 years ago.

I have to say that before they left, our family did present her with a King James Bible and bore our testimony of Christianity and Jesus Christ. We even gave her some pass along cards which showed the various important ministry of Christ (Easter, Christmas, preaching, etc)

Universities Offering More and More Classes On Mormonism - Without the Bashing

Ahhh, take a deep sigh of relief. Yes, folks, it's true! Colleges and Universities across the U.S. are adding classes on Mormonism to their semester schedules.

Melissa Proctor is one such professor at Harvard who not only is teaching a class - she is a member of the Church as well.

"The interest is growing in Mormon studies generally, and it's becoming something that other religious studies scholars have to take account of and pay greater attention to," said Melissa Proctor, a visiting lecturer teaching the new class at Harvard.

"Some people believe we have entered a golden age of sorts in Mormon studies," said Proctor, who grew up in the church and is working on a book about contemporary Mormon women.

Richard Bushman describes some reasons why this is happening:

"The study of religion in America is going away from the mainline Protestant establishment, to try to reconstruct a religious tradition that's much more variegated and filled with dissent, and Mormonism gets caught up in that new range of interests," he said.

Brian Birch of Utah Valley State college contributes:

"I think it's safe to say that some combination of academic elitism and religious bigotry has delayed the development of Mormon studies," said Brian D. Birch, the director of the religious studies program at Utah Valley State College, which offers four courses in Mormon studies. "Some of this is due to the categorization of Mormonism as a cult and hence not worthy of serious attention. This is not surprising given the historical connection between American religious studies and Christian divinity and theological schools."

It's nice to hear that tolerance might be extended to include my faith. Certainly, this is one great step in the right direction.

Huckabee Schmoozing In Secret Meetings and Cayman Islands

I got this great tip from a reader. Our friend Mr. Huckabee is involved in even more shady dealings than we could ever hope to cover. There are some deep pockets creating all kinds of 527 special interest groups that can't be traced thanks to McCain-Feingold. The other problem is that there are tax-exempt issues that disallow tax-exempt institutions from endorsing any candidate.

At Americans United for Separation of Church and State or AU, "Under the Radar: Secret Pastors' Briefing Seem to Have a Partisan Purpose", lists some of the slithery things the Huckabee/Evangelical camp are up to.

A shadowy collection of Religious Right fat cats appears to be working behind the scenes to encourage churches to promote the presidential candidacy of Mike Huckabee.

For months, Americans United has been receiving reports about state-based groups with names that include words like “renewal” and “restoration.” The idea seems to be to bring together fundamentalist pastors for closed-door meetings that, organizers say, discuss social issues.

If that’s really all they are doing there would be no problem, at least as far as the tax question goes. Tax-exempt religious groups can take stands on political and social issues.

But there’s another wrinkle to this that is more problematic: These groups keep scheduling Huckabee to speak to them – Huckabee and only Huckabee. And Huckabee doesn’t seem to want it to be known that he’s speaking. The events don’t appear on his public schedule. They are not open to the media. Attendees say little or nothing about them in public.

The Eve Fairbanks, from The New Republic did attempt to "infiltrate" one of the ritzy but ever so secret meetings.

Fairbanks also noted the secrecy of the event, writing, “Roaming around the Metropolitan Convention Center after last night’s session was over, looking for the event’s principals, I felt like I’d accidentally wandered into a meeting of the Masons, where a hilariously intense aura of secrecy, whispers, and special handshakes is deliberately cultivated.”

So then Huckabee makes a little campaign detour to the Cayman Islands - staying at the Ritz Carlton -

The unusual detour in the middle of a campaign, on the weekend before the Wisconsin presidential primary, had raised many questions: Is it appropriate to take a speaking fee while running for president? Is it appropriate to pick up cash in an offshore tax haven when routinely criticizing that haven for putting a burden on the American economy? Was this detour more or less an admission that he was not serious about his campaign?

But when asked how much he made on this gig - he "didn't know".

Mr. Huckabee said the matter was simple: He came here because he needed the money.

Yet, when asked how much he received, he suggested that he did not know.

The he gets a little defensive and takes a poke at McCain:

“No taxpayers pay for me to have health insurance, to pay my mortgage, to pay my bills,” Mr. Huckabee said. “And so to me, it’s not just absurd, it’s beyond absurd — it’s insulting — to think that there’s something nefarious about my being here when nobody has raised the question about sitting U.S. senators taking their full paycheck and enjoying all the magnificent perks they get from the U.S. taxpayers.”

But in the middle of shoving Mitt Romney out of the race and blasting him because he is wealthy, get a load of this pile of doo doo:

Mr. Huckabee himself has never been rich, drawing a $74,000 salary as governor, though when he left office, he bought a house in Little Rock for $525,000. On his most recent federal financial disclosure form, for 2006, he valued his assets at between $318,000 and $895,000. He earned nearly $150,000 in book royalties and made approximately $50,000 in speaking honorariums that year. His highest speaking fee was $17,000.

Enough said, but I do know that he was charging $35,000 a speaking gig a few months back. I'm sure his fees are only going up as he milks the campaign for all it's worth.
